Grace & Webb - Water Jet Cut Panels
Why would we specify water jet cutting over laser cutting in certain circumstances?
The majority of our interior and exterior decorative screens are laser cut resulting in intricate, highly decorative patterns and motifs cut to extremely tight tolerances and with a beautifully smooth finish to the edges.
However some materials cannot cope with the heat produced during the laser cutting process, resulting in deflection or hardening of the edges.
Water jet cutting has the capacity to cut materials without interfering with their inherent structure, making it particularly ideal for a broad range of materials such as glass, granite, stone, acrylic, copper and composite materials. The water jet is able to cut most metals in a much thicker sheet than laser cutting would allow.
It cuts intricate shapes to a very high tolerance resulting in lovely clean edges, which have a soft ‘sandblasted’ look to them rather the glossy edge of the laser. Individual sheets can be cut up to 2m x 4m and certain materials up to a depth of 200mm.
